QUEEN ELIZABETH II MEMORIAL EVENT
Bursledon Community came together on the evening of Thursday 15th September to pay its respect to the late Queen Elizabeth II. The service was hosted jointly by Bursledon Churches and the Parish Council. Around 200 residents and community groups attended on what was a perfect early Autumn evening. The Service was led by Rev John Pawson the vicar of St Leonards and St Pauls, with readings, hymns and poems from, Cllr Jane Rich chair of the Parish Council and representatives from local schools and scout groups.
Candles were lit and the national anthem sung, for many the first time with God Save the King rather than the familiar God save the Queen.
Following the service there was an opportunity to sign the book of condolence in the library.
Many of those attending expressed how much it had been appreciated and had provided a suitable focus for the many emotions people were feeling and marked a moment in history with the change of sovereign.
